Red Shoe Society

Young professionals making a difference

RED SHOE SOCIETY

Our Red Shoe Society program is currently paused as we work to restructure this program to better serve its members and mission. Stay tuned for updates in 2023!

The Red Shoe Society is a group of like-minded young professionals with a collective goal to help make a difference in the lives of families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Together RSS members fundraise, volunteer, and participate in events that bring comfort to RMHC Charleston families.

It costs the House $125 a day to provide for a family in need. While families are asked to help contribute to their stay, no one is ever turned away. Many families simply cannot give. This is where our Red Shoe Society comes in.

Red Shoe Society members enjoy many activities and benefits including:

  • Welcome Packet & tour of RMHC Charleston
  • Participate in the Meals that Heal program once a month, preparing meals for families staying at RMHC Charleston.
    • COVID Restrictions in place
  • Networking opportunities with fellow young professionals, RMHC Charleston Board of Directors, volunteers, and donors
  • Participating in and attending fundraising and social events
  • Valuable experience to be included on your resume
  • Invite to annual members only event

Allie Darby is a native of Charleston and lifelong supporter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston. After working as a high school counselor for the last 7 years, Allie has decided to pursue private clinical counseling. She earned her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia and a masters degree in school counseling at The Citadel.

Amber Nyberg grew up in Jacksonville, Florida with her sister, who lives in the DC area, and two half brothers, who live in Stuttgart, Germany. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Florida State University and has worked in the Charleston interior design market in a residential and commercial capacity. She currently works at Melcer Tile Company as the purchasing coordinator and builder sales representative associate.
Amber has lived in the Charleston area for the last seven years and quickly fell in love with Charleston’s charm. When she’s not working, you can find her exploring the streets of downtown, visiting the beach, or enjoying time spent with family and friends. She also enjoys running, yoga, and spoiling her 3 year old rescue puppy named Bronco.

Amie is a First Grade teacher at Ashley Hall School in downtown, Charleston. After graduating from The College of Charleston, she began her career teaching preschool in the Charleston area. She then moved to Telluride, Colorado where she taught preschool, but Charleston always seemed to call her back. Amie received her masters in Elementary Education and began her career at Ashley Hall, the only independent all-girls school in the state of South Carolina. Amie teamed up with two other colleagues and began the relationship with The Ronald McDonald House and the Lower School students. Since 2008, the Lower School has been involved with decorating the house to bring cheer to the staff and families, making sunshine cards for families and children, and cooking meals throughout the school year. She has enjoyed all of these special moments with her students, so she is honored to be a part of The Red Shoe Society.

Andrew Kraemer was born in New Jersey but moved to Charleston after college in 2009. He completed his post graduate work locally, receiving his MBA at The Citadel and his MHA from MUSC. This role lets him see healthcare delivery first hand and he has been part of IT Strategy, IT Implementation, and Revenue Cycle consulting projects. Over the years, Andrew has had a strong desire to give back to the community and is thrilled to join and get involved with the Red Shoe Society. Andrew lives in Charleston with his girlfriend and enjoys golf, the outdoors, and traveling.
