Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston, South Carolina, Inc. (RMHC Charleston) is pleased to provide information about its privacy policy. Please be assured that RMHC Charleston uses its best efforts regarding privacy protection and data security.
Types of Information Collected and How It Is Used
RMHC Charleston gathers personal information, such as first and last names, home addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and credit card numbers, only when voluntarily submitted by you. If you make a donation, personal information will be collected from you in order to process that donation.
With your permission, we will use personal information collected from you to send you information, such as RMHC Charleston updates or information regarding new Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room openings or other programs, fundraising campaigns or major grant initiatives. If you do not elect to receive such materials, we will not send them to you.
Security of Donor Information
Donor information is stored within a donor management database within RMHC Charleston. Access to the database is restricted to personnel with a legitimate business need to access or modify the information contained therein.
Sharing of Personal Information
Companies may be engaged by RMHC Charleston to perform a variety of functions, such as assisting with donation collection, providing technical services for our Internet sites, etc. Such companies may have access to personal information if needed to perform certain functions. However, these companies may use such personal information only for the purpose of performing that function and may not use it for any other purpose.
Other than as provided in this privacy policy, RMHC Charleston does not sell, transfer or disclose personal information to third parties, nor will RMHC Charleston send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
RMHC Charleston reserves the right to use or disclose any information as needed to satisfy any law, regulation or legal request, to protect the integrity of the site, to fulfill your requests, or to cooperate in any law enforcement investigation or an investigation on a public safety matter.
DATA BREACH NOTIFICATION
In May of 2020, a RMHC Charleston third-party data management vendor experienced a security breach which has since been resolved. Per the vendor, encrypted sensitive identifiable information such as credit card and banking information were not compromised. The data impacted by the breach may include information, such as name, mailing address, email address, phone number; event participation, days of stay, as well as biographical details.
Based on the nature of the incident, the vendor’s research and third party (including law enforcement) investigation, have no reason to believe that any data went beyond the cybercriminal, was or will be misused; or will be disseminated or otherwise made available publicly. They have hired a third-party team of experts to monitor the dark web as an extra precautionary measure. Additional information on the incident may be found here.
At this time, RMHC Charleston has no reason to believe that the data was further compromised or shared elsewhere. The protection and proper use of sensitive personal information of our stakeholders is important to RMHC Charleston and we will continue to take all necessary safeguards and precautions with your data. RMHC Charleston uses Blackbaud, USAePay, PayPal and Stripe products for payment processing and data storage. Each step in the online donation process is part of a secure website. Our privacy policy was last revised effective May 17, 2018. From time to time, it may be necessary for RMHC Charleston to change its privacy policy, so we suggest that you check here periodically.
